Three multi-million copy bestselling novelists come together in Dulverton Town Hall for the Festival’s popular annual Book Club author panel. This year’s theme is Family Secrets, those hidden truths, long-buried mysteries and unexpected revelations that lie at the heart of so many unforgettable stories. Patrick Gale, Rachel Hore and Kate Lord Brown are all acclaimed for bringing history vividly to life in their writing, through unforgettable characters and richly atmospheric storytelling.

Born on the Isle of Wight and educated at Oxford, Patrick now lives in Cornwall and is the author of more than twenty novels, including Mother’s Boy and A Place Called Winter. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and his BBC drama Man in an Orange Shirt won an International Emmy.

Rachel, a former HarperCollins editor and Oxford history graduate, is the Sunday Times bestselling author of fourteen novels, with several shortlisted for Romantic Novelists’ Association Awards. Kate formerly curated art collections for palaces and embassies in Europe and the Middle East, and after many years living overseas recently came home to the UK. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and gained an MA in creative writing from MMU. A finalist in the ITV People’s Author contest, The Perfume Garden was shortlisted for UK Romantic Novel of the Year.

Here in Dulverton, Patrick will share his compelling new novel Love Lane, Rachel will explore the richly woven historical mystery of The French Spymistress, and Kate  will introduce The Silver Thread, her evocative novel of family, memory and the ties that connect generations.

At 5.30pm, this literary event will be followed by the Dulverton Exmoor Literary Festival 2026 Children’s Writing Competition Awards Ceremony with local children’s author and competition judge Emily Lloyd-Gale reading the winning story.  See below for full details of the competition.
