On the recommendation of Exmoor’s leading supporter in the Upper House, Baroness Ann Mallalieu, we are delighted that Baroness Minette Batters has accepted the invitation to join us in Dulverton. One of the country’s most influential voices in farming, Minette will share her inspiring memoir Harvest – a deeply personal account of life on the land, the changing face of British agriculture and the values that continue to shape rural communities.

A farmer herself in Dorset, Minette was the first woman to serve as President of the National Farmers’ Union (2018 to 2024), representing British agriculture during one of the most challenging and transformative periods in its history. In Harvest, she reflects on her own journey, from building a successful farming business to becoming a national advocate for the countryside, sharing the experiences, setbacks and determination that have defined her remarkable career.

At a time when farming faces unprecedented change, this conversation offers a unique opportunity to hear from someone who combines practical experience with national leadership. Minette will explore the challenges and opportunities facing agriculture today, the importance of food production and environmental stewardship, and why vibrant rural communities matter more than ever.
