On Saturday 29 March the town was buzzing for another Dulverton Antiques Valuation Event. Valuers from Adam Partridge Auctioneers returned to Dulverton Town Hall to join the volunteers from Visit Dulverton for another valuation event – and a fun competition for all to enter!

Antiques expert Chris Surfleet said that a good number of unusual items were brought in for discussion and valuation at the Dulverton Antiques Valuation Event – including a fascinating album of WWII reconnaissance photographs taken by someone in the military and showing coastlines and towns presumably for bombing campaigns.  It was accompanied by a good medal group and Chris expects the items to carry a guide price of £500-£800 in the auctioneers’ May auction.

The ‘Guess the Antique Item’ competition was again very popular with the three items pictured above taxing the guessing abilities of those attending the event.  Item One was a Victorian woodpecker matchstick holder (with striking area); Item Two was a Victorian leather stretcher for cobblers (especially for stretching shoes for clients with bunions!); and Item Three was a 1950s device used to create the centre hole in vinyl records to go in juke boxes!  The person who made the most correct guesses as to the items’ uses was Bethan Reece-Jones from Exmoor and she wins the bottle of wine generously donated by Allison Crisp of Dulverton.  Congratulations, Bethan!

Local Dulverton businesses Oggies Music Shop, Simply Hide Leather Goods and Tim Venning’s ‘From Tim’s Workshop’ were also at the event, displaying and selling a selection of their fascinating upcycled and repurposed items for the home – from musical instruments to bags made from old saddles!

Come to Dulverton throughout the year to visit our exciting antiques shops, including Paul Hardy Antiques, Acorn Antiques and 20th Century Boy.

A brand new event for Exmoor – the Dulverton Antiques Valuation Day! On Sunday 25 March from 10.30am to 3.30pm a mini ‘Antiques Roadshow’ came to town!

Adam Partridge (pictured above) – a famous face from the television on Flog It!Antiques Road TripDickinson’s Real Deal and Bargain Hunt – has spoken recently on BBC Radio Somerset expressing his eager anticipation for the event. Adam said “When we were asked to offer a team of valuers for this event we instantly said yes! With our salesroom only a few miles away in Hele, we shall be visiting this area a lot in the future”.

Adam and his team of experienced auctioneers joined Visit Dulverton to host the event in Dulverton’s historic Town Hall.  Visitors were invited to bring along their antiques, jewellery, fine art & collectors’ items.  For a small fee the specialists on hand gave a valuation and history of the items that were brought along.  The fee was £5 for a maximum of three portable items per person (that were small enough to carry!). Refreshments and live music were on hand.

Visit Dulverton is also promoting the message of “repair, reuse, recycle” with other stalls at the event -including the team from the Somerset Waste Partnership who took donations of unwanted small tech for reuse (laptops, PCs, mobile phones etc) and helped visitors set up their own community repair groups.

The event was such a success that a second one is planned for Sunday September 23 at Dulverton Town Hall.  Keep an eye on the Visit Dulverton website and social media pages for more information about the event https://visitdulverton.com/dulverton-antiques-valuation-event/
